Cairo Governorate to Develop Sayida Aisha Area Into Tourist Walkway
The project will connect Masjid Al-Sayida Aisha to the Citadel and Sultan Hassan Mosque, highlighting Cairo’s Islamic heritage.

Cairo Governor Dr. Ibrahim Saber has announced plans to transform the Sayida Aisha area into a tourist destination, with a new walkway connecting several of the capital’s most significant Islamic landmarks. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to revitalise historic Cairo and enhance its appeal to both local and international visitors.
The Sayida Aisha area, named after the revered Islamic figure and home to a mosque bearing her name, holds deep spiritual and cultural significance. The planned walkway will stretch from Masjid Al-Sayida Aisha to the Saladin Citadel and Masjid Al-Sultan Hassan, integrating key architectural and spiritual landmarks within a single accessible route. The project also includes ongoing efforts to restore the area’s built heritage, including a historic wall that had long been obscured by surrounding buildings.
To enable restoration, residents living near the site have been relocated and compensated, allowing the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to begin preservation work.
