Jordan Partners With Starlink to Expand Satellite Internet Nationwide

Jordan has officially launched its first satellite internet service in partnership with Elon Musk’s Starlink, a move that is hoped to dramatically improve digital access across remote and underserved parts of the country.

The announcement was made during a press conference by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), marking a milestone in the Kingdom’s digital infrastructure development. The initiative is part of a broader national effort to ensure reliable and equitable access to internet services, particularly in areas where traditional telecom infrastructure has been challenging to deploy.

TRC Chairman Bassam Sarhan described the rollout as “a significant milestone for the telecommunications sector,” adding that Starlink’s low-Earth orbit satellite technology allows for fast and stable connectivity in areas previously left behind by fibre and mobile networks.

The licensing process for Starlink’s operations in Jordan followed a series of comprehensive technical evaluations to ensure the service met national regulatory standards. According to Sarhan, the TRC worked closely with Starlink to adapt the service to Jordan’s specific geographic and demographic needs.

Jordan’s collaboration with Starlink places it among a growing number of countries adopting satellite-based internet to bridge the digital divide. The TRC emphasised that the launch is expected to support economic development, bolster innovation, and enable greater access to e-learning, e-commerce, and remote healthcare services. Pricing and specific rollout timelines are still being finalised.
