Egyptian Bag Brand Jammas is an Ode to Those Closest to Our Hearts

With geometric intricacy and a sharp aesthetic, Egyptian brand Jammas’ handbags reimagine the utilitarian world of the handheld piece in vivid colour and distinct form.

Mariam Mamdouh, Jammas’ founder, has started her  journey into the world of fashion long before launching this brand. From a young age, Mamdouh was captivated by the beauty and elegance of bags and fashion. Determined to pursue her passion and expand her knowledge of the fashion industry, she embarked on a quest to learn all she could about starting a business, styling, and design.

With a limited colour palette and geometric forms, Jammas creates bags that complement and empower their carriers. The Janatte collection hangs from long straps, a bold rectangular structure in graphic zebra stripes and solid blocks of colour giving its owner a professional flair with uncompromising style and confidence.

“Janatte's design was inspired by a combination of colours that are easy on the eye and give a feeling of comfort. The zebra print was added to symbolise balance through the art of opposites, feminine and masculine - yin and yang,” Mamdouh tells Scene Styled.

Jammas’ second collection, The Hematite, features crescent-shaped bags inspired by the gemstone, with striking metallic hues that shimmer and evoke effortless elegance and cool sophistication. The bags were inspired by the second phase of the sunset, known as nautical twilight, when only half of the sun is visible. This moment of transition from day to night is captured in the elegant design of the collection.

“Jammas was my way of showing appreciation to the people that shaped me, without them I wouldn't be the person I am today,” Mamdouh adds. “From my mom who taught me patience, friends who guided me through life, and my sister who taught me responsibility, to my husband who gave me love, and most importantly, my late father who instilled independence in me. Jammas is dedicated to them.”

Jammas is further inspired by the close circle of people who shape our lives, with each bag capturing moments of joy and carrying a story within its minimalist lines.
