New Prepaid Meters to Be Installed in Mosques & Service Buildings

The Ministry of Electricity and the Ministry of Awqaf had signed a new agreement to introduce prepaid electricity meters and Awqaf-owned service buildings across the country. The partnership aims to modernise energy consumption in places of worship, replacing outdated mechanical meters with smart systems that enhance efficiency and prevent waste.

Under the agreement, electricity distribution companies will work with local Awqaf directorates to audit power usage, install new prepaid meters, and replace faulty or mechanical ones.

The installation process will involve surveying mosques and related buildings that currently lack proper metering systems. The shift to prepaid meters is expected to streamline electricity payments and help monitor consumption in real time, reducing overall energy loss.
