Driverless Taxi Service to Be Extended to Zayed International Airport

Abu Dhabi is expanding its autonomous taxi service, TXAI, to include Zayed International Airport. This development, led by the Integrated Transport Centre under Abu Dhabi Mobility, is part of a broader vision to make 25% of all city trips driverless by 2040. The expansion follows TXAI’s pilot phase, which logged over 30,000 incident-free trips.

By incorporating AI-powered vehicles, officials project a 15% reduction in carbon emissions and an 18% drop in road accidents by 2040. Each autonomous vehicle currently operates with an onboard safety operator, though fully driverless rides are planned for the future as infrastructure and regulations evolve.

Abu Dhabi Mobility is also increasing public awareness efforts by providing a dedicated mobile app that enables users to book and monitor rides. Additionally, the Emirate has laid out a robust regulatory foundation, including new insurance models, licensing systems for driverless fleets, and secure communication infrastructure.
