Qena Cinema Days Dedicates 2nd Edition to Director Radwan El-Kashef

The second edition of Qena Cinema Days has officially kicked off under the theme ‘Creativity Begins in the South’, spotlighting the stories, heritage, and communities of Upper Egypt—a region often overlooked in Egyptian cinema. Held in the city of Qena, the event aims to amplify southern Egyptian voices through a programme of film screenings, educational workshops, and cultural activities.

This year’s edition is dedicated to the late Egyptian director Radwan El-Kashef, whose work remains a cornerstone of Egyptian realist cinema. Known for films such as ‘Leh Ya Banafseg’ and ‘Arak El-Balah’, El-Kashef captured the complexities of rural and southern Egyptian life, exploring themes of identity, social change, and the clash between tradition and modernity.

Beyond screenings, Qena Cinema Days is offering hands-on film workshops and educational sessions designed to nurture a new generation of southern Egyptian storytellers.
