Salma Mashhour Dismissed Just Days After Joining Dagenham FC

Salma Mashhour, Egyptian football content creator, has been dismissed from her role at Dagenham & Redbridge FC just two days after her appointment, with speculation pointing to her pro-Palestinian posts as the likely reason behind the abrupt decision.

The UK-based football club announced the move in a short statement online, saying that Mashhour was “removed from the position of Director of Development & Engagement, effective immediately,” offering no further explanation.

Mashhour, known for her work across Arabic football content and her YouTube presence with her husband through their channel “Ahmed and Salma,” had joined the club alongside popular Egyptian YouTuber Marwan Serry. Serry, who recently acquired a stake in the club, had introduced Mashhour as part of a creative new direction aiming to bridge football with storytelling, community, and digital reach.

Online, many have linked her dismissal to recent posts expressing solidarity with Palestine. Several fans and regional commentators have criticized the club’s silence on the matter, arguing that her removal reflects mounting pressure faced by Arab creatives over political expression.

In a response video posted online, Mashhour and Serry expressed disappointment, stating they were caught off guard and had not been given a reason by the club. “We’re still processing what happened,” they said, leaving the door open for further clarification. The duo also urged their audience not to attend the upcoming game scheduled for Saturday, adding that their tickets would be refunded in full.

The dismissal has sparked widespread reaction across Arab social media, raising questions around censorship, representation, and how football clubs engage with sociopolitical issues beyond the pitch.
