Saudi’s First Rest Facility for Delivery Drivers Opens in Al Khobar
Eastern Province gets Saudi Arabia’s first dedicated rest stop for app-based drivers, designed to tackle haphazard parking.

Saudi Arabia’s first rest facility for delivery drivers was launched in Al Khobar in the Eastern Province. The space was licensed by local authorities to support the growing number of app-based drivers, keep drivers from waiting outside in extreme weather, and reduce the issues caused by unregulated waiting and parking.
The facility includes seating, air conditioning, lighting, and technical connectivity to nearby restaurants and shops.
More than 290 million delivery orders were placed in Saudi Arabia last year, with Riyadh leading activity at over 45% of total orders. Al Khobar is part of the Eastern Province, which saw 15% of all delivery activity in 2023, according to the Transport General Authority.
Officials expect around 100 similar rest areas to be licensed in the coming period, including ones near shopping centres, to support a sector that logged over 200 million operations in 2024 alone.
