Dubai RTA Completes Solar Panel Installation Across 22 Facilities

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the installation of solar energy systems across 22 of its operational facilities, including metro stations, bus depots, workshops, and administrative buildings. The solar panels are expected to generate approximately 32 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy each year, significantly reducing the authority’s reliance on conventional electricity sources.

The move is projected to cut carbon dioxide emissions by around 10,000 tons annually, supporting Dubai’s broader climate goals, including its target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Facilities included in the solar panel rollout are located in Al Quoz, Al Khawaneej, Al Ruwayyah, Satwa, Oud Metha, and Muhaisnah, among others.

Each installation was tailored to the site’s technical requirements and implemented in accordance with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA) Shams Dubai programme, which promotes the integration of solar energy into the emirate’s power grid. Real-time monitoring of performance and energy output will be conducted using DEWA’s official systems to ensure ongoing efficiency.

The project aligns with both the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, which aim to diversify the energy mix and increase the contribution of renewables to the city’s power supply.
